Rope Winch
Since I don’t want to wind up 100m rope by hand I build a winch which I can attach to a drill. I got that idea from Silly Bird Balloon Project.
Luckyly I found a spool for free in a do-it-yourself store. It was used for robe but they only sell the robe. If you find a empty one you get it for free.
Not for free but still cheap I got some wood to make a shaft for the winch. I need some tricks to get it fit in the drill and in the spool because on one end it was too width on the other it was too small.
I used a drill with a wider opening to woodturning the shaft to a smaller size. On the other end I wedged in some wood splinter to fix the spool.

Camera Case
Since I don’t want to damage my photo camera I needed a stable case. I found a nice box in a do-it-yourself store. I filled it with several layers of polystyrene and cut a window with a heated knife. Then I fit the camera in the polystyrene just to find out that the box with 111g was to heavy for my balloon. Hence I enhanced the polystyrene with a cover and some gaffer tape so that I finally got a light weight camera casing.

On the top of the box I have four loops to hang the box under the balloon. The camera holding cord serves as additional security and will be bounded directly to the balloon.
